Founding Partners

CDH Investments has a stable team. The six founding partners have been working together since 2002. CDH Investments founders stand on each investment committee to guarantee the consistency of the investment decision.

  1. Wu Shangzhi

    Chairman
    Prior to founding CDH, Wu was the Head of CICC’s private equity group from its inception in 1995, a Managing Director since 1998 and a member of CICC’s Management Committee from 2000-2002. From 1991 to 1993, he was a Senior Investment Officer at the International Finance Corporation. From 1984 to 1991, he was an Operation Officer at the World Bank. After leaving the IFC/World Bank, Wu returned to China to become a founding partner and Managing Director at Beijing Copia Consulting Company Ltd. Wu received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and M.S. in Management of Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
  2. JIAO Shuge

    CEO
    From 1995 until founding CDH, Jiao was a Vice President in CICC’s private equity group. From 1989 to 1994, Jiao was a research fellow at the Beijing Institute of Information & Control. Jiao received his M.E. from The Ministry of Aeronautics & Astronautics University and his B.S. from Shandong University.
  3. Stuart Schonberger

    Managing Director
    From 1998 until co-founding CDH, Schonberger was a Vice President in CICC’s private equity group. From 1987 to 1994, Schonberger worked at The First National Bank of Chicago in New York providing corporate finance services. After leaving First Chicago, he returned to China to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, becoming the founding partner in two joint ventures and providing advisory services to a number of foreign companies regarding their operations in China. Schonberger received his MBA degree from New York University's Stern School of Business and his B.A. from Wesleyan University.

  1. Hu Xiaoling

    Managing Director
    From 1999 until co-founding CDH, Hu was a Senior Associate in CICC’s private equity group. From 1995 to 1999, she was a Senior Auditor with Arthur Andersen where she provided auditing and business advisory services to foreign and domestic publicly listed companies and foreign investment companies.Hu received her M.S. degree in Economics and her B.S. degree from Northern Jiaotong University. Hu is a member of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants of United Kingdom and a qualified Securities Certified CPA.
  2. Wang Lin

    Managing Director
    From 1999 until co-founding CDH, Wang was a Senior Associate in CICC’s private equity group. From 1994 to 1999, Wang was a Senior Manager in China National Investment and Guaranty Corporation’s Loan Guarantee Department. From 1993 to 1994, Mr. Wang was a project manager at De Bao Real Estate Developing Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ministry of Finance. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degree from the Research Institute for Fiscal Sciences of the Ministry of Finance and his B.S. degree from East China Jiao Tong University.
  3. Wang Zhenyu

    Managing Director
    From 2000 until co-founding CDH, Wang was an Associate in CICC’s private equity group. Prior to joining CICC, Wang worked as a financial consultant to the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and other international and domestic institutions. From 1994 to 1996, he was a project manager at Beijing Copia Consulting Company. Wang received his M.S. in Industrial and Commercial Management and his B.S. in Machinery Engineering from Hefei Polytechnic University.

Huang Yan

Managing General Partner, Venture and Growth Capital

Prior to joining CDH Venture, Huang was an Associate Director with Intel Capital, a division of Intel Corporation, starting in 2003, where he completed several investments in IC design, Internet, and wireless sectors. From 2000 to 2002, Huang was a Vice President at Alibaba.com, responsible for marketing, corporate alliances and engineering activities. The divisions he managed developed and marketed products that were key revenue generators for the company. From 1995 to 1999, he was a Technical Manager at AT&T Bell Labs10 in New Jersey and was a founding member of Elemedia, a startup pioneering VOIP technologies in the USA. Huang received his M.B.A. from the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Missouri, and a B.S. from Zhejiang University.

 

Li Gang

CEO, Cephei Capital

Prior to founding Cephei in 2006, Li was the Managing Director and Head of China International Capital Corporation’s Sales & Trading department. He was responsible for creating and building CICC’s distribution capabilities into the country’s most highly regarded sales & trading desk. From 1992 to 1997, Li worked at the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation’s Corporate Finance department and became the head of Freddie Mac’s portfolio analytical team in 1993. He was a top performer and managed the analytical support team for Freddie Mac’s US$1.5 trillion MBS portfolio. Li received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Operations Research from Case Western Reserve University.

 

Ying Wei

Managing Director, Wealth Management

Prior to joining CDH in 2009, Ying spent 18 years of his career with China Resources (Holding) Ltd., a China state-owned “Blue Chip” company listed in Hong Kong, where he successively took the positions of Director, Vice President and Operations Director of Hong Kong China Resources Textile Group. After leaving China Resources in 2007, Ying spent 2 years at China Water Group (0855.HK) as Vice President in charge of investment, M&A and financial control of the Group. Prior to joining CDH, Ying was the CEO and Executive Director of China Botanic Development (Holding) Ltd. (2349.HK). Ying received his Bachelor of Management in Accounting from Huangzhou Institute of Commerce and his M.B.A. from the University of San Francisco. Ying is a qualified Chinese CPA and also a non-practitioner member of Shenzhen CPA Association.

 

Song Xiaoming

Managing Director, Real Estate

Song has over 18 years of experience in property development, direct investment and asset management. Prior to joining CDH, he served as the Director of Asset Management (North Asia) for Pramerica Real Estate Investors. From 1992 to 2007 Mr. Song worked for China Resources Property Limited (CRPL) and its subsidiaries, and he served as the General Manager of China Resources Property Limited, Hong Kong, from 2001 to 2007. Mr. Song received his MBA in Finance from the University of San Francisco and his B.E. from Tsinghua University.

 

Hu Ning

Managing Director, Mezzanine and Credit

Mr. Hu joined CDH Mezzanine and Credit in 2011. From 2006 to 2011, Mr. Hu was the Senior Investment Executive Director of Property Investment Division in Pingan Trust. Prior to that, Mr. Hu was the Investment Director in Shenzhen Taskin Investment Advisory Company. Mr. Hu received his master’s degree in finance from the University of New South Wales and bachelor’s degree in economics from Zhongshan University.

 

Guo Li

CFO

Ms. Guo joined CDH Investments in 2002. From August 1997 to June 2001, Ms. Guo was senior staff at Arthur Andersen. Ms. Guo is a Certified Public Accountant and received her bachelor’s degree from Central University of Finance and Economics.

 

William HSU

Managing Director, Head of LCR

HSU has around 20 years of experience in the private equity industry. He joined CDHVenture in 2007 and has been leading CDH’s legal and compliance functions since 2013. Priorto CDH, HSU was a Senior Vice President at GIC Special Investments Pte. Ltd (“GICSI”),the private equity arm of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation. He started in 1996 and worked in GICSI’s Singapore, Hong Kong, and Beijing offices, covering mainly the Greater China market. HSU received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineeringfrom the University of California, Berkeley. HSU is currently a director of Ether, Value Focus,XiaoGuiDangJia, APT, and EpiTop.
